Hello everyone!  It is Giveaway Day once again, and I am happy to offer this little fabric basket, which is an ideal size to store small cuts of fabrics like fat quarters, but can also be used for all kinds of small items.

Valentine Crafting and a Giveaway / Brico de St-Valentin et un prix à gagner

Wow, I can't believe that it has been a complete month since I last posted here.  For a long time after Christmas, I stayed away from my studio, not because I did not have any projects in the making, but the truth is, we bought an iPad during the holidays, and I spent much more time slumped on the couch browsing Pinterest and making boards of crafting ideas than doing any actual crafting.

Wow, je ne peux pas croire qu'il y a déjà plus d'un mois que je n'ai écrit quelques mots.  Pour un long moment après Noël, je suis restée loin de mon studio, et ce n'est pas parce que je n'avais aucun projet en route.  En vérité, nous avons acheté un iPad pendant le congé des fêtes, et j'ai passé beaucoup plus de temps confortablement installée sur le sofa à parcourir Pinterest et à me construire des tableaux d'idées de bricolage que je n'en ai passé à bricoler moi-même.

Until one day I fell in love with the sock monkey and just had to try making one.  The pattern I found seemed easy enough to understand, and I wanted to give it a try, so I bought a really cheap pair of socks at the dollar store and made my first attempt.  Even though I was a little careless with the details, like the embroidery, I kind of like the end result.  I will definitely make another one with better socks and more attention to details.

Jusqu'à ce qu'un jour je tombe en amour avec le "sock monkey" (un singe fabriqué à partir d'une paire de bas) et que je ne puisse m'empêcher d'en faire un.  Le patron que j'ai trouvé me paraissait assez simple à comprendre, et je voulais vraiment l'essayer, alors je me suis acheté une paire de bas bon marché au magasin à escompte et j'ai tenté mon premier essai.  Et malgré le fait que j'ai un peu bâclé les détails, comme la broderie du visage, je suis assez contente du résultat final.  Je vais définitivement en faire un deuxième avec une meilleure paire de bas et en accordant un peu plus d'attention aux détails.

Pinterest is full of crafting ideas for Valentine's day, and after pinning a few in my crafts board, I decided to actually make some of them, and since they were quick enough to make in a few days, I had the idea to prepare a little giveaway with what I had made, a kind of Valentines gift for one of you.

Pinterest regorge d'idées de bricolage pour la St-Valentin, et après en avoir inclus quelques-unes dans mon tableau de bricolage, j'ai décidé d'en fabriquer certains d'entre eux.  Ce sont des petits bricolages rapides que je pouvais faire en quelques jours, alors j'ai décidé de les regrouper et de les offrir en prix à gagner, un petit cadeau de St-Valentin pour l'une d'entre vous.

Also included with these four items will be a cardboard envelope that you can see in the first picture of the giveaway.  It is large enough to wrap a gift card , some small treats or even money.  To participate, simply leave me a message in the comments, and feel free to include a link to your favorite Valentines craft, although it is not a requisite to be entered in the giveaway.  The rules are simple: one entry per person please, open internationaly, giveaway will close on Friday, February 8, 2013, and the winner will be announced sometime in the weekend.

Hello everyone, hope you are enjoying your Saturday, it is snow day in Quebec city.  The landscape is slowly turning white and that puts me in the Christmas spirit, which is perfect for the occasion, as it is time to announce the winner to my little giveaway of a Christmas ornament.

I received lots of great comments and enjoyed reading them very much.  I learned great things about Christmas ornaments too, and from the comments I made a little research on Etsy and found a selection of beautiful ornaments that I would love to add to my own Christmas tree.  As I thought some of you might also be interested in these finds, here are my favorites, with links to the Etsy seller where I found them.

My favorite ornament is one that one gifted to me 3 years ago from a dear family friend. She actually sent several but the one I love the most is this beautiful 5 tiered wedding cake full of beautiful colors and lots and lots of glitter! It's something I really care about and make sure I put it right smack in the middle of the tree so it's what my eyes go to the most often. I'm so blessed to have such a wonderful husband and family.

Giveaway Results

Now that the swirl of Giveaway Day is past, I want to thank each and everyone of you for taking the time to visit my blog  and enter my little giveaway.  With over 350 entries, I call it a success, and I am glad that my fabrics met the tastes of so many. 

I have received really great comments on the topic of nature, and was pleased to read them all.  Some were sweet, others were funny; some brought back memories of childhood and a few were quite fascinating.  I would have liked to answer them, but the task was simply too great and I gave up altogether.

We live on a farm, so we see lots of nature, all the time...but I love discovering new things that have found there way onto out land. We now have at least one Buzzard, sometimes three. This Spring my DH spotted a white Hare...very unusual for our temperate climate in Ireland.

It's Giveaway Day!

I don't know about you, but Giveaway Day has become a tradition for me.  And I have realised that I have even more fun when I am giving something away than just participating in other people's giveaways.  I love reading comments that others leave on my blog and I am happy to make one lucky winner.

Which is why I am participating once again in this Giveaway Day.  The last few weeks have been a bit hectic and I haven't had time to sew something nice to offer, so I will keep it simple and give away three coordinating fat quarters of fabrics from my stash.  The pink one is a print from Jenean Morrison's California Dreamin' collection; the flowers on brown are from Michael Miller's Hedgehog collection; the other one, I don't know where it comes from, but I call it Froot Loops!

So, if you would like to win these fabrics, here is how it goes:

It's Giveaway Day!

Thanks to Sew, Mama, Sew, Giveaway Day is back, and I wouldn't want to miss it, so I have prepared a little something to offer.

A while ago, I came up with a simple basket designed to store fat quarters.  I wanted to write a tutorial for this, but being the big procrastinator that I am, I never did.  However, I still want to share my little baskets with others, so I thought this giveaway might be a good opportunity to do so.

I will have two prizes:  one is the basket below, all sewed and ready to receive your fat quarters (or anything else you might want to store in it, it is up to you).

The other prize is a kit to sew your own basket, including all fabric pieces, batting and interfacing, as well as ribbon for the ties and a simple how-to.

If you want to enter my giveaway, here are the rules, which I have tried to keep as simple as possible:

My own little success, and a winner

I've been done with this pillowcase for a few days, but haven't been able to post it before today. This is what I did following the Pillowcase Crochet Along hosted by Cassie. I was pretty scared of doing the crochet border when my experience of crochet was very basic and so far away in the past. To tell the truth, I did not remember anything about crochet, except the fact that I once loved it, when I was 10 or 12 years old. I actually had to watch crochet videos on the internet to understand how to do it. Pathetic, I know, but I was determined to learn it by myself, even though my sister offered to help me. It was part of the challenge. The result is far from perfection, but I am very pleased with it. And the great thing is that now I want to try other crochet projects. I've been eyeing some very tempting granny squares lately, here and there. We'll see where that leads me.

My Creative Space - A Celebration (and giveaway)

Today I celebrate my first blogiversary and decided to have a little party in my messy studio, so you are all invited to come for a visit and have some cake. Put a party hat on and please don't look too much at all the stuff lying around the place.

I am surrounded with Keri Beyer fabrics these days, what with the quilt I am making with the Proud collection, and some Urban Farm just turned into some pillowcases. So I thought it would make sense to share my love of Keri Beyer fabrics with you on this special occasion.

So, here it is, I've put together a little bundle of three fat quarters of Proud in teal and orange.

If you would like a chance to go home with these lovelies, it will be quite simple, because who wants to make things complicated and risk ruining the party?

Giveaway Day!

I recently found a very easy way to make my own bias tape. I don't have one of those bias maker and was considering buying one when I came across this great tutorial from Creative Little Daisy (you might also want to read her Public Service Announcement for a little laugh).
I tried the technique and loved it, it is so easily adjustable to the desired width. Looks like I will not be buying a bias maker after all!

Now, ok, I am getting to the point, the Giveaway. After making loads of bias tape - it was that much fun! - I thought I could give some of it, along with buttons from my vintage collection and a small cross-stitched flower appliqué that I made last weekend when I was meant to be cleaning the house ;-)

The bias tape is 2.50 cm (1 inch) wide by 4.50 m (almost 5 yards) long. Buttons are different shades of blue and the appliqué is 6 cm by 4 cm (2 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches).

I would love to learn a few more sewing DIY techniques if you have one to share, but this is not a requirement to participate. Where was I?

Where have I been these past weeks? Time definitely goes way too fast. Now that spring has really set in, there is quite a lot of work to do around the yard, so I spent some time working outside. I was also busy preparing a brunch for Mother's Day, in honor of my mom and my sister. These are the cinnamon buns I made for that brunch, and you can see someone could not wait one second before tasting one of them...

I had prepared little presents for my sister and for my mother, small satin pouches covered with felt flowers


In which were hidden summer necklaces. My sister has a big thing for the color purple, so I made hers with that color in mind.

My mother recently went on a trip on the beaches of Cuba, so I chose shells and a sea star for hers.
