A bottle and some twine / Une bouteille et de la ficelle

 

Good morning all!  Here is the little project that I worked on yesterday when the wind prevented me from playing with spray paint.  I had been wanting to cover a bottle with twine for a long time, I had a few images and tutorials pinned on Pinterest.  Yesterday was the perfect time to try it, and I just love the result.

Bon matin à toutes!  Voici le petit projet sur lequel j'ai travaillé hier, alors que les forts vents m'ont découragée de jouer avec de la peinture en aérosol.  Depuis longtemps je voulais recouvrir une bouteille de ficelle, j'en avais plusieurs images et tutoriels en tableaux sur Pinterest.  Hier était la journée parfaite pour m'y mettre, et j'adore le résultat.

I used some Sisal tying twine that I found in the gardening department of our local hardware store.  It is very rough and the thickness varies a lot, and I think that it is even better because it adds more texture to the finished project.  My bottle is just a small wine bottle that I saved from the recycling bin.  I washed it well and removed all the stickers from it before starting, because you can still see some of the glass peeking through the twine.

J'ai utilisé une simple ficelle de sisal que j'ai trouvée dans le département de jardinage de ma quincaillerie.  C'est un matériel plutôt brut, et son épaisseur varie beaucoup, mais je pense que c'est encore mieux parce que ça ajoute de la texture au produit fini.  Ma bouteille est une petite bouteille de vin que j'ai cueillie dans le bac de recyclage.  Je l'ai bien nettoyée et j'ai pris soins d'enlever toutes les étiquettes avant de commencer à enrouler la ficelle, parce qu'on voit le verre par endroit, entre les brins de ficelle.

The flowers are sweet peas from my garden, and they are pretty much the only thing worth seeing there these days.  Unfortunately, they do not have any fragrance, as they are the perennial kind, and I learned after they bloomed for the first time that only the annual sweet peas have fragrance...

Les fleurs sont des pois de senteur de mon jardin, et elles sont à peu près les seules fleurs qui valent la peine d'être vues dans mon jardin ces jours-ci.  Malheureusement, elles ne dégagent aucune fragrance, parce que ce sont des vivaces, et j'ai appris seulement au moment de leur première floraison que seuls les pois de senteur annuels dégagent une odeur...

It is a glorious day outside, so I guess I will get my spray paint out and try what I had planned for yesterday.  I have very rarely worked with spray paint and I am a little bit intimidated, so wish me luck.

Il fait un temps superbe aujourd'hui, alors je pense bien que je vais sortir ma peinture en aérosol et tenter ce que j'avais planifié pour hier.  J'ai très rarement travaillé avec la peinture en aérosol, et je suis un peu intimidée par elle, alors souhaitez-moi bonne chance.

Summer Bracelet / Bracelet d'été

Hello everyone, hope you are having as fun a week as I do.  So far, I have been working on some staining that needed to be done outside, and some gardening, although this year's garden is probably my biggest failure since we've been in this house.  I got to thank Mother Nature for the big help she's given me in creating this disaster.

Anyway, I also took some time to make this little bracelet, which is super easy and quick to make.  I first tried it with thick string like they use in the pattern, but it looked too bulky on my super tiny wrist, so I switched for thinner string and added more strands to create interest.

Bonjour tout le monde, j'espère que votre semaine se passe aussi bien que la mienne.  À date, j'ai passé du temps à faire de la teinture qui avait besoin d'être rafraîchie à l'extérieur, et j'ai jardiné un peu aussi, bien que mon jardin cette année soit le moins réussi depuis que nous avons emménagé dans cette maison.  Je dois quelques remerciements à Mère Nature pour la précieuse aide qu'elle m'a apporté dans la création de ce désastre.  

Par ailleurs, j'ai aussi passé un peu de temps à fabriquer ce petit bracelet, lequel est très facile et rapide à réaliser.  Je l'ai d'abord essayé avec une grosse corde comme celle montrée dans le patron, mais l'effet n'était pas joli sur mon poignet minuscule, alors j'ai remplacé la grosse corde par de plus petites, et j'ai multiplié les brins pour ajouter de l'intéret.

The only thing that I will change about it when I get a chance to go to the craft store, is that I will replace the small round clasp by a magnetic one, so it is easier to put on and take off by myself.

La seule chose que je vais changer dès que j'aurai l'occasion de passer dans une boutique de matériel d'artiste, c'est que je vais remplacer le petit fermoir rond par un fermoir aimanté, de sorte qu'il sera plus facile d'attacher le bracelet sans demander de l'aide.

I had a spray paint project planned for today, but the wind is howling outside, so I will not risk it and I will work on something different, and hopefully I can come and show you tomorrow.

J'avais planifié pour aujourd'hui un petit projet qui implique de la peinture en aérosol, mais le vent hurle dehors aujourd'hui, alors je ne vais pas me risquer, et je vais plutôt travailler sur un autre projet, que je pourrai peut-être vous montrer demain.

2 Petites Coutures in business / 2 Petites Coutures ouvre boutique

It has been in the works for a while, a secret between my big sister and I, and today I am happy to announce the grand opening of our new Etsy shop,

Il y a un moment que nous y travaillons, un petit secret entre ma grande soeur et moi, et aujourd'hui je suis heureuse d'annoncer la grande ouverture de notre petite boutique Etsy.   

We decided to team up in a joint shop because we thought it would be easier to stock it regularly with new items, as both of us work full time and only have a few hours a week to devote to sewing and other crafts. 

Nous avons décidé de faire équipe dans une même boutique en pensant que ce serait sans doute plus facile de cette manière d'offrir plus souvent des nouveaux items, parce que nous travaillons toutes les deux à plein temps et n'avons que quelques heures par semaine à consacrer à nos projets de couture et d'autres bricolages.

Our first listings are mostly Christmas items, to be in season, but we have all kinds of items in the making, hoping that they will appeal to some of you.  You can check the shop here and let me know what you think of it, what is good and what needs to be improved.

Sew and Tell - Holiday Recap

Why is it that every year I tell myself that I will start sewing presents early, only to get caught on December 23 frantically handsewing the last pieces close?  I guess I like to live under pressure, and I sure got plenty of that this year.  But it was well worth the trouble because I am glad of what I made and the little presents were appreciated by the recipients.

I made this simple bag for my sister Nathalie, who likes birds and purple.  The pattern is from a French book called "Tout en patch..." by Corinne Crasbercu, and you can see what it's all about here.  My sister and I actually exchanged our handmade gifts, she made some lovely crocheted items for me.

I couldn't resist the urge of making yet another of those lovely patchwork baskets from Pink Penguin.  This one, my fourth, was for my mother, and I filled it with japanese paper scraps for her scrapbooking and cardmaking, and with a few cross-stitched ornaments that I had made.

I also made her a couple of laundry bags (also from "Tout en patch...") that she will get to use in her upcoming trip to Cuba.

And as if I wasn't busy enough with the gift making, I decided on a whim to make a couple of chinese puzzles that we used in a game at our Christmas party.  They don't look like much, but trust me, they were a lot of work!
